Die Integration von Zuwanderern in Deutschland: Aspekte der Politik und des Arbeitsmarktes

Zusammenfassung Since the end of World War II, Germany has been one of the most important immigrant countries in Western Europe. As a result of ongoing immigration 7.3 million ethnic Germans have immigrated since 1990. This paper analyses the integration of immigrants into the German labor market, focusing mainly on labor migrants from former recruitment countries and on ethnic Germans, who moved to Germany since the middle of the eighties. After reviewing immigration policies and the modes of incorporation, empirical finding of the labor market integration of these two immigrant groups will be presented. The empirical studies show that - although no serious income discrimination could be identified - foreign workers and ethnic Germans are occupied to a higher degree in low qualified professions and their unemployment rates are remarkably above those of natives.
